Once a Panther

LI: To identify the key historical context and events related to the Polynesian Panthers and the Dawn Raids as depicted in the graphic novel.

We read the text Once a Panther and asked to create a comic strip that depicts a scene related to the ideas of prejudice, justice, or taking a stand in today’s world using thought bubbles or dialogue that explains the image.

Something I found interesting about this challenge was the art behind it and the story you can tell through text.

Trip to Auckland War Memorial Museum

We went to the museum to finish off our topic of Volcanoes.

We had a challenge as a class to be in a scenario where a volcano Rangitoto has just erupted, we had 30 seconds do decide what to pack if the eruption was near us, our group had to make wise choices so we could stay safe in the event of a evacuation, we had a backpack and many other items.

We walked to the WW1 area and saw alot of names, we thanked them in silence and respected. Then after we went to the weird and wonderful, it was filled with alot of weird things but it looked really cool.

A interesting fact I got from the class room is that Rangitoto is only dormant and its not extinct.

Paired Research Challenge

  • LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

Our challenge was to create a DLO that tells others about the dinosaur we found when we excavated our dinosaur eggs.

Me and my partners found the skeleton of a Brachiosaurus, and I found out that it can stand up to 50 feet tall.

Something I found  interesting was that when a Brachiosaurus stands it can be up to 50 feet tall.

Fossils

  • LI: To understand how scientists know so much about dinosaurs.
  • LI: To recognise different types of fossils and how they are formed.

Our challenge was to create a Google Draw that shows clearly labelled  examples of each fossil type.

Something that I found interesting was, that trace fossils could be dinosaur feces, and that you could tell what a dinosaur preyed on just by the teeth on another fossil.

Dinosaur Eggs

  • LI: To understand how scientists discover, record and learn from fossils.

Our challenge was to become a paleontoligist who uncovered a rare dinosaur egg fossil. We used Adobe Express to reimagine what a real find might look like. After a quick research challenge about habitat we used that information to create our image.

My partner and I  found the skeleton of a Brachiosaurus, and  we found out that it has a big heart so it can pump blood up to its brain!

This task was fun because at the begining we got to put a random dinosaur into a clay sort of mold, and then we cracked it open.

Provacation

For this weeks reading task we made a DLO about a provacation, we gave a question to answer and looked at both sides of it, we checked which one we thought  had a better reason to the question, the question was “Should the government have apologised for the dawn raids that happened yesterday (1970s) ?”

We thought yes because the people that felt hurt to this and the family’s broken in this event still needed a apology otherwise the hatred for the government would still be there.

We still checked the other answers for no and the reason behind it, overall  we thought yes was the reasonable answer.

This task was fun and I liked how I could tell my own opininons.

Mary Anning podcast

  • LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

Before we take part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century.  Mary Anning did discover the first almost complete skeleton of a plesiosaur, a marine reptile, in 1823.   She also nearly completed the ichthyosaur skeleton another marine reptile.  Who was also knowned as on of the first paleontologist.

What is Palaeontology?

This week we made a fifty word summary about what palaeontology is, what the people do it in it, and why fossils are important.

We used Google drawing to make DLO and a short summary about what it is and explain the meaning of doing palaeontology.

I found learning about the things they find interesting like bones, fossils and ancient life.

Lowest Common Mutiple DLO

Me and my math group made a DLO about what a lowest common mutiple is.

We used examples to explain what is and how it works and put a few questions.

Lowest common mutiples is the lowest numbers that are used to mutiply into the number that is in question, for example the lowest common mutiples of six is two and three because two times three is six.

I enjoyed this task because I created a DLO of hwo to show what im learning in maths, I found this task interesting because it cna always remind me of what a Lowest common mutiple is.

Pourquoi Story

Long long ago, there was a volcano, she was the furious of the furious and  her name was Maungarei and  she had the smallest temperature and got mad regularly, but she soon found out that all the chaos she caused everyday would come back to her, but still she caused and caused more chaos everyday but soon she was enraged by her feelings and would only see red.

As her anger took control she rumbled and exploded causing all the other volcanoes to be scared of her. Once Maungarei was surrounded by a smoke screen of fury everyone knew to run.

Maungarei soon regretted her actions and realized how lonely she has become.”Why are you guys leaving?!” She asked worriedly,”Your scary Maungarei you get angry too much!” The other maunga replied.

Since this has happened she started to cry explosions and lava burning the land and turning everything to ashes. Little later after,  she relaxed herself,  she looked around and saw that nothing was there and knew that this was her doing so she made up her mind to be better.

“I have made up my mind, I have made the descision to sleep forever and to not cause chaos anymore, only if I’m not woken up from my slumber” she stated

After those words everyone agreed and she made a promise to her and her own neighbours that they would not wake her up from her sleep and she would not cause a fit of rage anymore. So she did so, she went to sleep for an extremely long time and is still in her deep rest till this day, this helped  humans build buildings and societies around her. She could not see her brother and sisters anymore because of the tall and big building that surrounded her. People now call her a dormant volcano because she is asleep.

I used Adobe express to create this image with prompts that gave me a variety of pictures to choose, I thought that this image suited the story most because it shows a volcano in flames and you can tell there’s emotions behind the fire.
