For Literacy we have been using our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Reverend Samuel Marsden had we had the chance to meet him and talk to him. This was a fun activity because we took on the roles of Samuel Marsden and the Time Traveller’s Podcast team. It was like we experienced actually meeting him.

We learned that when you are recording a podcast expression is everything! It makes what we have to say more engaging.

Mapping the Migratory Flight of the Kuaka

LI: To use Google My Maps to show the migratory flight path of the Kuaka.

The Kuaka travels from their  breeding grounds so they can feed on rich mud flats, they migrate to harbours sandy coasts as their habitat, they migrate to the Alaskan tundra to breed as that is their breed grounds.

They refuel at the yellow sea to preserve energy to make the flight.

Fun fact: the kuaka bird is known for their long distanced migration is over 11,000 kilometers.

Dot to Dot Connections: The Kuaka

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you
have made.

Our task was to make a dot to dot connection between information about the Kuaka I chose a variety of different words to make connections to and provided information between them.

something our group found interesting was the Kuaka bird preserves energy by standing on one leg. This is because this is a facisinating fact and it cool to know.

Photo Story

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling

Our task today was to make a visual story in time sequence, we used photos of our walk to tell people stories of how our walk down the Tamaki awa went. We pictured what Samuel marsden might have seen.

I enjoyed this task because we got to think of what Samuel Marsden might have seen and it was like a walk down through  history. This activity was also fun because it we got to play at the park.

Preventing Kauri dieback

LI: To understand how we can help prevent Kauri Dieback disease and why we need to do this.

One of our challenegs at camp was to walk the Cossey- Massey track at Hunua. Before we entered the bush we had to make sure our shoes were disinfected. This DLO tells why we needed to do this and why we need to help prevent the spread of Kauri Dieback.I think this is an important message to share because Kauri diebacks are important to New Zealand and show a big part of New Zealand.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

Our challenge today was to write and record our pepeha to introduce ourselves.

I found this interesting because I’m learning more about my self, culture and where I’m from.

Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads.

Our challenge today was to use the links provided and our own smart searching skills to find out what Kauri dieback is and what we need to do to try and prevent this from spreading. We need to know about this so that we do our part to keep our Kauri safe when we go on hike at camp.

I worked with Daniel and Haloti and we found it interesting that the Kauri Dieback is a sad disease to trees and we should help trees  stay alive.

I enjoyed this task because I got to learn more about nature and trees.

Expectations in LS2

At the start of the year we learnt the expectations of being in LS2 and what we think is expected and what we expect to be able to make the most of our learning time.

I grouped up with two other people and we worked on one slide. We wrote what we think is expected of us first.

After that we wrote what we expect to be able to make the most of our learning time, learning that I collaborated with Jaeliyah and Loa we made this  slide of  the expectations.

I enjoyed this task because it was a fun idea and it was very cool decorations.

What did Samuel Marsden see?

LI: To use the information in the diary extract to create an image of what we think Samuel Marsden saw when he sailed down the Tamaki awa.

We used Adobe Express to create an AI image of what we thought Samuel Marsden would’ve seen if he was at Tamaki awa. We included olden day villages and maori wakas because these would have been here  if he looked down the tamaki river. We learnt diffrent things about the history of Samuel  Marsden and his reputation.

Exploring AI

LI: To identify and understand how descriptive language is used to create a clear picture of a setting in a text.

This is the image I created using the Adobe Express. I found this activity challenging because AI wasn’t replacing the image with what I want but I found it fun because there was alot of funny different options.

Something I learnt when using prompts for AI is to use more specific words to get the right things when asking AI to replace the image.
